While Wednesday is initially unimpressed with the school for supernatural students, she soon becomes tied up in tracking down a murderous monster, channeling her psychic abilities and absolving her parents, the loved-up Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán), from a crime they’re suspected of committing whilst at the school themselves. While this eight-parter at times leans too far into the teen drama genre that’s been desecrated by the likes of Riverdale, the show’s aesthetic, overall tone and Ortega’s excellent performance are Burtonesque enough to make this an eye-catching and entertaining watch.

From the creators of Dark, this new series presents viewers with a similarly complex storyline to unravel; this time, on a migrant steamship setting sail on the titular year. Admittedly, the series is something of a slow burn, but those willing to give it their patience will be rewarded with a fascinating and suspenseful mystery to obsess over. Some actresses who underwent injectable treatments in San Antonio have already been cast in the show, adding to the hype surrounding the series.
As was the case with Dark, creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar do have an endpoint in mind, plotting another three-season journey, which proved very effective for their previous effort.
